The Department of Bengali is one which was formed at the very inception of Khejuri College. In 1999, General Programme began to be taught while Honours Programme was initiated in 2002. The First Departmental Head was Dr. Mir Rejaul Karim. Dr. Gautam Dandapat joined as the Departmental Head in 2002 and has continued to lead the Department to new heights of glory. Dr. Amalesh Patra has subsequently joined as Assistant Professor in the Department in 2010. At at present, the department has five teachers and the total intake capacity in Honours Programme is 118 seats.
The Department of Bengali has focused on indigenous culture and literature of the region in various Seminars, Special Lectures and Research Projects which it has organised over the years. Several distinguished guests have graced the Seminars, Webinars and Special Lectures organised by the Department. These include eminent literary figures like Nalinikanta Bera, Sadhan Bhattacharya, Saikat Rakshit, Dr. Ramkumar Mukhopadhyay, Selina Hossein; dramatists like Ujwal Chattopadhyay, Prof. Saumitra Basu, Dipankar Sen, Dr. Gauranga Dandapat; eminent academicians like Prof. Barun Chakraborty, Prof. Bitashok Bhattacharya, Prof. Shrutinath Chakraborty, Prof. Sabitrinanda Chakraborty, Prof. Bikash Kanti Midya, Prof. Baniranjan De, Prof. Atiquzzaman (from B.L. College, Bangladesh), Prof. Jaydeep Ghosh, Prof. Manan Kumar Mondal, Prof. Sanat Kumar Naskar, Dr. Joyjit Ghosh, Dr. Jaydeep Sarangi, Dr. Surajit Ghosh, Dr. Santanu Sarkar, Dr. Narayan Haldar, Dr. Samantak Das, Dr. Prabal Kanti Hazra among several others.
